Avondale Estates, Georgia — The Avondale Estates Municipal Commission will meet on Wednesday, June 29 at 5:30 p.m. for a regular meeting followed by a business session. The City Commission meeting will be held via Zoom and at Avondale Estates Town Hall, 21 N. Avondale Plaza.
At the regular meeting, the city commission will hold a public hearing on the 2022 mileage rate. Council will hold another public hearing and a special meeting called for Thursday, June 30 at 6 p.m. to consider setting the mileage rate.

The city commission has tentatively adopted the 2022 mileage rate, which is 9.8 mills. The mileage rate remains the same as in 2021 and has been set at 9.8 mills for the past four years.
It is estimated that the city’s property tax collection will increase by 6.57% based on the increase in county property assessments.
The proposed municipal taxes for a house with a fair market value of $400,000 are approximately $90.60. The proposed taxes for non-family property with a fair market value of $525,000 are around $105.70, according to a news release.
During the business session, council will discuss a car wash water recycling ordinance. According to the State of Georgia, following a state audit of the city’s stormwater ordinances, the city must pass an ordinance requiring all commercial car wash facilities operating with Avondale Estates to install recycled water systems.
The ordinance aims to reduce the water consumption of commercial car wash facilities. The order would apply to all new conveyor car washes licensed or built after July 1, regardless of water source. A conveyor car wash is a car wash where the car moves on a conveyor belt during the car wash. The order would not apply to self-service car washes or bay car washes.
The City Board will also continue discussions on the corner lot setback study. Lord Aeck Sargeant has completed his analysis of corner lot setback distances in the historic quarter of the city.
The city commission will further discuss a resolution directing the United States Postal Service to change all ZIP codes of properties within the corporate boundaries of Avondale Estates to reflect the inclusion of annexed properties in the city. at Avondale Estates.
