The Anti-Corruption and Good Governance Society filed a petition with the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission regarding the alleged involvement of National Universities Commission Finance Director Samuel Marcel Onazi in a money laundering scheme.
The group alleged that Onazi amassed wealth through the commission despite the persistent strike by members of the Universities Academic Staff Union, which is the result of the government’s failure to meet the union’s demands, part of which is insufficient funding.
According to the petition, Onazi laundered at least 1.4 billion naira which is spread over several bank accounts managed by the director of Polaris, Fidelity banks among others.
In addition, the group highlighted the various properties owned by the Director funded by laundered money from the Commission.
The petition dated June 10 and signed by Ogori Attah called on the anti-corruption agency to open an investigation into the allegation against Onazi.
It reads: “I wish to bring to your notice and necessary action the money laundering and corrupt enrichment of the Director of Finance of NUC, Mr. Samuel Marcel Onazi.
