Nigeria to commission new international airport terminal this week – TechEconomy.ng

Everything is now ready for the commissioning of the newly constructed international terminal at Murtala Muhammed Airport in Lagos on Tuesday, March 22, 2022, TechEconomy.ng can report.

Commenting ahead of the launch, Faithful Hope-Ivbaze (Ms), Ag General Manager, Corporate Affairs at FAAN, said the brand new world-class international terminal is one of five, being built in Lagos, Abuja, Port Harcourt, Kano and Enugu, under a bilateral agreement between the Federal Government of Nigeria and the People’s Republic of China.

“The Abuja and Port Harcourt ones are already completed and commissioned, while the Kano one is completed and will soon be commissioned.

“The new Lagos International Terminal, which will be commissioned by the President of the Federal Republic of Nigeria, President Muhammadu Buhari, has the capacity to handle 14 million passengers annually. It is built on a land mass of approximately 56,000 square meters and has 66 check-in counters.

“Other terminal facilities include 5 baggage collection carousels, 16 arrival immigration desks, 28 departing immigration desks, 8 security checkpoints, 6 passenger boarding bridges (2 of which have already been installed), 2 food courts, 4 premium lounges, 22 rooms and spa, 16 air ticket offices, visa on arrival and port health center, as well as a prayer area, more than 3,000 square meters of duty-free space, approximately 5,000 square meters of rental utility space, among others.

“The new terminal to be commissioned is expected to generate around three thousand direct and indirect jobs for Nigerians, as well as improve passenger facilitation and comfort at Lagos Airport.

“The Authority will also sign a Memorandum of Understanding with the Lagos State Government on the 9 km Airport-Shasha-Alimosho Link Road to be constructed by the State Government.
